OCTOBER SCREENINGS AT CHIDDINGFOLD CINEMA

and our farewell to Matthew

Dear Visitor,

As part of our farewell to Matthew Lacey our long standing cinema manager (8 years), we start on the 5th of October with a screening of one of Matthew's swansong films with one of his favourite actresses Jennifer Lawrence.

Friday 5th October – 8:00pm

Winter's Bone is an American mystery film, adapted and directed by Debra Granik from the 2006 novel of the same name by Daniel Woodrell. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence as a teenage girl in the rural Ozarks of Missouri who, to protect herself, her mother and siblings from eviction, must locate her missing father. The film explores the themes of family ties, the power of gossip, and gives us a glimpse of what life can be like for poor Americans living in isolated, but beautiful rural areas.

Haunting, yet still hopeful, it boasts an incredible, star-making performance from Jennifer Lawrence, the Oscar and Bafta winning actress.  The film won the Grand Jury Prize for Dramatic Film and the Best Screenplay Award at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and also won awards in the Berlin and Stockholm Festivals the same year.   It has become a classic film and a must see.

We hope you will take a chance and come and see this film – you will not be disappointed!

Running time: approx. 1hour 40 minutes    BBFC Certification:  15

Friday 19th October – 8:00pm

The Happy Prince.  Rupert Everett, who wrote and directed the film, also acts alongside a stellar, wish-list of a cast, including Colin Firth, Emily Watson, Tom Wilkinson and Anna Chancellor.  Depicting the time after his release from Reading Gaol, it follows Oscar Wilde’s last days of exile to the continent where he is lost in bankruptcy, infamy and pain.

The Spectator describes this film’s Wilde as being “… brilliant but foolhardy, exploited but willfully self-destructive, funny but also pathetic.  A sad film, but ravishingly so.”  Everett has succeeded in making a beautiful and moving tribute to a contradictory, perplexing and maddening genius.

Running time: approx.. 1 hour 45 minutes   BBFC Certification:  15

CINEMA TRANSITION.....

After 8 years at the helm, Matthew and Georgia have now both decided to step aside from their leading roles.  As a result, between September - December 2018, Chiddingfold Cinema will be entering a transition phase as we try to learn the ropes in our efforts to keep the candle burning and attempt to fill some very big shoes!  As ever, both Matthew and Georgia have promised their support and will always be available for advice as and when required.  The new team will officially start in January 2019.
