Cinema for May & June

Dear Visitor,

There was no cinema on 5th May as we celebrated the Kings Coronation weekend, but we are back with some fabulous films to come:

Friday 19th May we will be screening JOYRIDE - a fabulous comedy/ drama following 12-year-old Mully (Charlie Reid), who, after fleeing his father, steals a taxi and is shocked to find a woman, Joy (Olivia Colman), in the back seat with a baby. Joy has decided to give her child away to a friend, and Mully needs some distance from his debt-ridden dad, who’s after the cash Mully has with him. And so two lovable rogues - a complicated middle-aged mother and a troubled adolescent - go on a journey across Ireland, gradually finding in each other the friendship, love and learning they never knew they needed.   Cert 15.

Friday 2nd June we will be screening SHE SAID - Two-time Academy Award® nominee Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan star as New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor, who together broke one of the most important stories in a generation discovering a trail of sexual assaults as they work on a story about the film producer, Harvey Weinstein.  The shocking story that helped propel the #Metoo movement, shattered decades of silence around the subject of sexual assault in Hollywood and altered American culture forever.  Fast-paced and performance-driven, one of the best movies of the year.  Cert 15.

Friday 16th June we will be screening WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT? -A comedy/romance about Zoe a documentary filmmaker who uses a dating app that only delivers an endless stream of Mr. Wrongs. For Zoe's childhood friend and neighbor, Kaz, the answer is to follow his parents' example and opt for an arranged marriage to a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan. As Zoe films his hopeful journey to marry a stranger, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love.  Starring Lily JamesShazad LatifEmma Thompson amongst others.  Cert 12.

Volunteers - if you are interested in being a volunteer at the cinema please let us know, you don't have to commit to every screening and you get free entry to the film.  We especially need someone in charge of chairs, both helping to put them out and more so to monitor and help the packing away of chairs (often helped out by you our lovely customers).  Other areas to volunteer are the refreshments, the bar and front of house.

Film selection - we try to select the best of films available each month.  Not all films are available on DVD to screen, we find a larger number go directly to streaming services.  We welcome suggestions keenly especially if you have seen the film yourselves.  Please have a word with us or email This email address is being protected from spambots. The cinema is run by volunteers and all profits from the Cinema go to the Chiddingfold Village Hall Charity.
