February at Chiddingfold Cinema

& a live night of entertainment!

Dear Visitor,

What a wonderful New Years come back with firstly our incredible new commercial laser projector and on 12th January we had fabulous attendance with over 110 watching the film The Great Escaper - what a great evening!

We are back to our usual two screenings in February.  On Friday 2nd February we will be screening a superb comedy/drama THE MIRACLE CLUB with Dame Maggie Smith, Kathy Bates and Laura Linney.  A truly joyous, uplifting, heartwarming and aspirational tale of working-class women from Dublin set in 1969, who embark on a pilgrimage to Lourdes in search of miracles. Having never even left Dublin – let alone Ireland – the journey provides close friends Lily, Eileen and Dolly the chance to let their hair down, celebrate life and delight in some sweet independence.  Kathy Bates crooning “He’s So Fine” in a church talent show, with 88-year-old Maggie Smith shimmying behind her as a backup singer is worth the price of admission alone!  Cert 12.

Our second film on Friday 16th February is another gritty drama from Ken Loach - THE OLD OAK  is a special place. Not only is it the last pub standing, but it's also the only remaining public space where people can meet in a once thriving mining community that has now fallen on hard times after 30 years of decline. TJ Ballantyne the landlord hangs on to The Old Oak by his fingertips, and his predicament is endangered even more when the pub becomes contested territory after the arrival of Syrian refugees who are placed in the village without any notice.  The final message of hope in the film is resolutely upbeat and desperately needed.  Cert 15.

Tickets are available online and on the door.  We prefer online bookings so that we know how many chairs to put out!  The online box office closes at 5pm on the day of the film.

Finally, on Thursday 29th February the Village Hall is delighted to have live entertainment with magician, escapologist and comedy performer  Greg Chapman touring his ‘The Non-Psychic ‘Psychic’ Show’ - Using the full range of magic, escapology, mentalism and other performance skills, he takes the audience through a ninety-minute exploration of fraudulent mediums, from the Victorian Seances to modern psychic readings, but all clearly presented as trickery – and without any attempt or illusion of talking to people’s “dead relatives’”.  This show is fun and thought-provoking. Although the show takes no stand on whether it is actually possible to communicate with the dead, it shows how the appearance of such communications can be made through trickery, in a way that is entertaining, interesting, and at times downright funny!  Tickets are £10.50 available through Ticket Source Online Booking.  There will be an interval and cinema volunteers will be manning the bar and refreshment before the show and during the interval.  We hope to see you for what we think will be a thoroughly entertaining evening!

Lastly, thanks to the new volunteers that have come forward to join our merry crew!

Look forward to seeing you soon -
