Marvelous March at Chiddingfold Cinema

(and live entertainment reminder)

Dear Visitor,

We have had some terrific numbers at our films over the last few months and expect that to continue in March!

On Friday 1st March we are screening THE LESSON - The Lesson is a real breath of fresh air, and one of the most watchable films of the year so far.  Not one many will have heard of in this Oscar season, but certainly one we would recommend.  The story:  Liam (Daryl McCormack), an aspiring and ambitious young writer, eagerly accepts a tutoring position at the family estate of his idol, renowned author J.M. Sinclair (Academy Award nominee Richard E. Grant). But soon, Liam realizes that he is ensnared in a web of family secrets, resentment, and retribution. Sinclair, his wife Hélène (Academy Award nominee Julie Delpy), and their son Bertie (Stephen McMillan) all guard a dark past, one that threatens Liam's future as well as their own. As the lines between master and protégé blur, class, ambition, and betrayal become a dangerous combination in this taut noir thriller.

On Friday 15th March we will be screening the much awaited ONE LIFE - The incredible, emotional true story of British humanitarian Sir Nicholas "Nicky" Winton, a young London broker who in the months leading up to World War II helped save hundreds of Central European children from the Nazis.  Fifty years later, Nicky (Anthony Hopkins) is haunted by the fate of the children he wasn't able to bring to safety in England. It's not until the BBC show "That's Life!" re-introduces him to some of those he helped rescue that he finally begins to come to terms with the guilt and grief he carried - all the while skyrocketing from anonymity to a national hero.  Also starring Helena Bonham Carter as Babette Winton and Johnny Flynn as the young Nicky.

Lastly we would like to remind everyone that there is live entertainment at the Village Hall on Thursday 29th February.  An evening of magic, comedy & thought is brought to you with the tour of The Non-Psychic 'Psychic' Show - 'Psychic’ performances are everywhere these days – with people who claim the ability to communicate with the dead performing everywhere from theatres, to home visits, and on television.

Magician, escapologist and comedy performer Greg Chapman created his ‘The Non-Psychic ‘Psychic’ Show’, and is very excited to be coming to Chiddingfold Village Hall, with the show!  Using the full range of magic, escapology, mentalism and other performance skills, he takes the audience through a ninety-minute exploration of fraudulent mediums, from the Victorian Seances to modern psychic readings, but all clearly presented as trickery – and without any attempt or illusion of talking to people’s “dead relatives’”.

The village hall cinema volunteers will be running a bar, doors will open at 7pm and there will be an interval.  If not sold out tickets might be available on the door, but booking is highly recommended!

We look forward to seeing you soon!
