Introducing our 2018 Season

and starting with a bang...

Dear Visitor,

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope you all had a restful break. We've been girding our loins at Chiddingfold Cinema to bring you another exciting season of films guaranteed to blow away the cobwebs and keep the winter chills at bay.

We kick off our 2018 Season with a couple of films you have been clamouring to see, beginning with an epic wartime blockbuster:

Dunkirk (2017)

Dunkirk (2017)

Starring Fionn Whitehead as Tommy

& Barry Keoghan as George

Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan takes on the largest production of his career: the story of the 1940 evacuation of Allied forces from the beaches of northern France. With ground-breaking special effects, and a vast cast including Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh, this is film making on a new and powerful scale.

We then follow that up in February with Judi Dench as Queen Victoria. Need I say more?

Victoria & Abdul (2017)

Victoria & Abdul (2017)

Starring Judi Dench as Queen Victoria

& Ali Fazal as Abdul Karim

After the success of their previous collaboration, Philomena, director Stephen Frears and Judi Dench team up again, with Dame Judi reprising her role as Queen Victoria. Preparations for the Golden Jubilee draw subjects from across the Empire, including a young Indian clerk who strikes up an unexpected personal rapport with the ageing and increasingly withdrawn monarch.

Next in February comes something unprecedented: the first oil-paint animation.

Loving Vincent (2017)

Loving Vincent (2017)

Starring Douglas Booth as Armand Roulin

& Robert Gulaczyk as Vincent van Gogh

The world's first oil painted animation, in the style of Van Gogh's own work. A year after the death of the artist, a young man is given the seemingly pointless task of delivering Van Gogh's final letter. However, as he gets to know the town and people who claim to have known Vincent, numerous suspicious details emerge which paint the story of those last days in a wholly different light.

Finally, in March, a laugh-a-minute comedy of denunciations and executions (and my personal favourite so far)

The Death of Stalin (2017)

The Death of Stalin (2017)

Starring Steve Buscemi as Nikita Khrushchev

& Simon Russell Beale as Lavrentiy Beria

Writer and director Armando Iannucci (creator of The Thick of It) brings you this 'Comedy of Terrors'. The death of the feared dictator results in a power vacuum while his erstwhile deputies fight like rats in a sack to replace him and protect themselves from each other's ambitions. What follows is hysterical, hilarious chaos, where truth is often stranger (and sillier) than any fiction. If you like a laugh, you'll love this. But don't you dare be the first to stop applauding...
